Welcome Lifelong Learners!

Ready to start the Year of the Horse embracing renewed opportunities for growth? I’m excited to share the course I developed during my action research at USC will now be offered online through Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) in 2026!

Course Title: Making Meaning in Later Adulthood: A Memoiristic Journey.

Course Description: (from the MPC Spring 2026 Catalogue)

“This engaging six-week course offers a meaningful opportunity for older adults to reflect on their life journeys through guided writing and conversation. Rather than focusing on creating a polished piece of writing, the class emphasizes self-discovery, personal growth, and connection with others. Each week, participants will explore gentle writing prompts designed to spark memories, insight, and reflection on life experiences, relationships, and personal values.”

Days: Mondays

Time: 10-11:30 AM

Dates: February 2 – March 16, 2026

I drew inspiration for this course from psychologist Erik Erikson’s ideas about finding wisdom and fulfillment later in life, and Mark Nepo’s “The Fifth Season: Creativity in the Second Half of Life.” The course encourages thoughtful discussion about identity, legacy, and the stories that shape who we are. I hope you will join us!
